HISTORY

Hello, I am Joann Pheasant and I’m glad you found me. With over 22 years of experience representing clients in the greater Seattle Washington and Sacramento areas, I have the legal expertise to represent you aggressively and professionally. Unlike larger firms, my practice has allowed me to fully realize my passion for helping people solve problems and to continue at all levels of litigation. Your problems will be worked on by an experienced attorney, not a student, law clerk, or junior associate. There are times when I co-counsel with other attorneys on complex cases, but only with the clients full consent and only when it is to your benefit.

I earned my Juris Doctor degree in 1997. I became an Assistant Attorney General where I worked as a trial attorney in civil commitments, felony trials for the mentally ill, and Federal Litigation involving the Special Commitment Center for Sexually Violent Predators.

During this period of time I amassed hundreds of hours of courtroom experience in bench and jury trials as well as the Court of Appeals. After leaving the Attorney General’s Office, I worked for a private law firm doing insurance defense in cases involving serious injuries, premises liability, employment and housing discrimination.

I then worked as a Staff Trial Attorney for a major Insurance Company. This background working for the defense gives me a huge advantage when I take your case. I know how the Insurance Industry works, and what does and doesn’t work as a plaintiff’s attorney.

In 2002 I founded the Law Offices of Joann L. Pheasant where I have focused on personal injury, contracts and property law. I have worked as a trial consultant for other attorneys. Recently I’ve been appointed as counsel by the Federal Court in California to represent a plaintiff in an Americans with Disabilities case, and in a Federal Mediation regarding Constitutional Issues.

I am a native of Anchorage Alaska and was raised in Seattle Washington and a graduate from Ballard High School. I later attended the University of Washington for both my Bachelors degree as well as my degree from the University of Washington School of Law. While at the UW I also excelled in rowing and was one of the first women to participate in the Opening Day regatta now known as the Windermere Cup. I supported myself during my undergraduate years by working in Alaska in the fishing and mining exploration industries. I later worked in complex logistics for oil exploration.

My work experience has given me a vast area of knowledge and during my 22 years in the legal industry, I have worked in personal injury, property damage, premises liability, commercial litigation, construction, insurance coverage, end of life issues, divorce and probate as well as catastrophic medical issues, & cancer patient coverage. I am primarily a litigator. What that means for you is I am prepared to go to trial, in every case. Then the choice of a good settlement becomes much higher and the decision to settle the case or continue to trial is yours. Insurance companies know that many attorneys go through the motions and can’t or won’t try cases. We can.
